Tattoo!

I recently put on my FaceBook page that I am thinking about updating my tattoo.  First,  I have to explain how I came to get a tattoo.

When my dad passed away, I wanted something to have forever that would remind me of him.  No trinket or clothes, would cut the mustard either that is just "stuff" I didn't want his stuff I wanted something that would constantly be a reminder to me of him, who I am, and something that make me never forget his image.  So, I broke down and gave great thought to a tattoo.  It took all of 2 minutes to come up with what I wanted, I grabbed his sword from his Military school days,  and brought it into Elm Street Tattoo Deep Ellum.

I told the artist that I wanted to get a tattoo of his sword.  He more or less laughed at me and said, that would look stupid.. He then said, this sword has some really cool designs on the sword. let's look and see if we can find something within in it that would be cool.  I helped for about 2 minutes, than realized that as creative as I am, this is what HE does for a living.  I left the sword with him and went to the bar next door to relax.. (I was nervous..)  I went back and he had drawn up what is now my tattoo.  It was gorgeous! we set up an appointment and was excited to get it done!

So, I was watching all these tattoo's shows and noticed it was always the big guy that passed out because of pain.  Needless to say, I was nervous.  Dean Williams (the artist) put me at ease within 5 seconds of sitting down.  He said, "This makes us brothers for life" i'll stop whenever you need, you can grab water when you need it.  I could tell that he knew not only how nervous I was, but how important it was to me.  Fast forward 6 hours of tattooing on my arm.. there were indeed painful sections, but when it got painful I just thought about my dad and all that he had to gone thru.  The pain went away almost instantly.  Came back 4 weeks later for another 5 hours,  and in the end it was worth it.  I have a new brother, a friend in Dean.  We don't talk very often but I don't want to have anyone else tattoo me.

So, that brings us to the now.  Its all in black, but was just thinking that I wanted to add some color to it.  here is a pic of it as well as my dad.  (Thinking about coloring in the shield. There are stars in the shield as well. can't really see in pic because i'm so white... but they are there)

Would love to hear what you guys think! please post a comment!

Music..

I sometimes have to revisit my old roots musically, and have to admit this is one of my favorite beastie boy songs AND video!  What is your favorite Beastie song?  I have way too many artists to list, but ran across this and just wanted to throw it out there. Copy and paste link to browser. What made me think of them, was I recently read an article that says 'MCA' has found out he has Cancer! luckily, it looks as though they caught it early enough that they can treat it with better success than had it spread.

Just Thinking...

I remember the first comedy club I went to, I was about 13 and don't have a clue why they let me in... I was with my parents in Myrtle Beach I think.. We sat right in the front row, and the comedian was talking about his younger years and how he would just "F" everything he could! he was talking about a Buick and how he would "F" the gas tank and how crazy he was... Shortly after, he was going around the crowd asking people what they did.. He asks my dad, and my dad kind of chuckled and said, Buick! The comedian laughed and said thank you for building such a great car! lol we couldn't stop laughing the whole time.  I'm sure the comedian thought that my dad was being a smart ass but none the less it was very funny.

Any humor I have I got it from my dad, he would say the goofiest jokes that were so stupid but he would deliver it in such a way that you couldn't help but laugh.. Very few people can tell an absolute dumb joke and get a laugh.. An example of one: Did you know that a man who farts in church sits in his own pew? We (our family) has been saying that dumb joke since I can remember.. lol  Or his ongoing question about a thermos... "It keeps the hot stuff hot and the cold stuff cold, but... How do it know?"  Again, just saying it or even typing it I can't help but roll my eyes, and and think geeez so stupid! lol but, it worked for us.. It was our own little family joke. Like comparing ourselves to the Griswolds from the movie Vacation, we used to take vacations in usually a station wagon (with woodgrain donning the sides)  no flying for us! for many hours on end.  At the time, I remember hating them because my sister, conned both my sister and I into playing a "game" where she got to basically lay down in the back seat! she's a smart one... Looking back, those trips made us who we are today... whatever you want to label us as, we as a family have only been closer because of those trips. Thanks dad.  If I ever am blessed to have a family of my own, I plan to do the same thing.. Hopefully though, in an SUV instead of a station wagon with wood grain on the sides... lol

Til' next time...

Sorry

Sorry for not posting anything as of late, I am trying to figure out how to post my demo reel on here, and just can't figure out how! I think I have to make a movie and use the tracks from Itunes (that is where I have the demo) or from a zip file I made as a soundtrack.  It won't let me just post it. grrr! And I am working on a funny story, but trying to find the picture that goes with it.. (Story loses a lot without it) LOL

Thinking about working on some material for a stand up routine as well... Oh yeah, trying to get a job too... If you can't tell, I'm starting to go stir crazy! Only so many hours in a day! Thinking about quitting smoking too, kind of scared to gain EVEN more weight though... Long run, quitting is better.  Hard to believe I could be so stupid to even smoke after losing my dad to Cancer.  Weird thing is, he didn't get it from smoking! Part of me says "F" it, if you are going to get it, you are going to get it, whether its just crappy luck or hereditary it doesn't care.  Now I'm rambling! damn you blog! lol

Hopefully soon, I will have some exciting, happy news to share! please bare with me for now as I go through yet another rough patch in my soon to be famous career. lol I just have to keep in mind three things: A lot of others have it worse than me,  to never, NEVER give up, and to live in the now!  Any advice on how to get my reel to play here or anywhere (youtube etc.) would be greatly appreciated!

Guess I made a post afterall...lol  Til next time!

Bullit makes his presence known!

So, anyone that knows me knows about my little heathen, Bullit.   For those of you who don't, well I have a few situations where Bullit has put me in awkward situations...

I had just moved into my new apartment in Dallas, off of Henderson Ave. right behind Cuba Libre (a really tasty restaurant) and that was next to a popular pizza place. I was at home, and just chilling out when I smelled, I mean I decided to take out the garbage.  It wasn't a big task, all I had to do was just set it outside my front door.   So, in my boxers and a t-shirt ( what? I like to be comfy) I set the garbage outside, before I could say no, or stop Bullit ran right thru my legs! assuming that the entrance gate would be a quick stop for him, I leisurely give chase... As I turn the corner, I see him wiggling thru the bars! After an brief but certainly loud AW SHIT! I give full chase, (which is like asking a moped to keep up with a ferrari) I run 3 blocks down the street towards Cuba Libre in my boxers and t-shirt, and its around 6 pm so, perfect timing for the restaurants to be busy...

Out of breath, and yelling Bullit over and over a nice valet hears my voice just as the damn dog is about to run out to Henderson Ave.  (A very busy road) He says, "Do you want me to get your dog?" I replied, um no I'm running to see what kind of car is going to kill him! ( Ok, no I didn't but did he really have to ask?) Just as he was about to swoop in after him, Bullit takes off INSIDE the packed pizza place! 10 seconds later, he returns with dog in hands, and bullit just has the biggest smile on his face... The Valet gave him back to me, and as I was walking back to my apartment, a few people were saying, "aww, cute doggie!" meanwhile, the whole time I can't think of enough ways to punish him... 40 minutes in the bathroom... ok, 5   I tried...

Another time, I was seeing this woman whom I was really attracted to, she had the look, the attitude, and all that good stuff.. (sorry so brief, but had a bad ending because of bullit...) We had gone out for the afternoon, and she left her vintage glasses on my living room table.  I remember, at that time I had to pick everything up, shoes, clothes, and anything that he may want to chew.  (which has included 3 lights and a fan plugged in) I thought I had said, we better get those before we go, of course we forgot or didn't and when we came back, he had in fact chewed them up pretty bad... I did what I could to fix them, took them to eyemasters or a similar place, and they looked better.... Just not the way they were... Needless to say, that is what ended that one... (why do I feel like Rodney Dangerfield all of a sudden?)

I LOVE THIS POSTER!

On with the women!

So, since being here in Dallas I have met some interesting women.  Some, I am happy to have met, dated, and others I just wish I never met.  I thought I would share some of my funnier or odd moments while being single in Dallas.  I have to preface this with a statement simply saying these things really did happen!

The first story, took place around 2 years ago.  I was on a dating site and met a woman who I thought was very interesting, we started to talk and go out a few times.  Fast forward about 2 months, when she tells me that she was moving out of her apartment and wanted to find something in Downtown Dallas.  (At the time, she lived just outside of Dallas)  She said that between work and that commute she didn't have a lot of time to look.  (Of course she tells me this within a week of her moving out)  So, she moves out of her place and puts her stuff in storage, and I tell her that she can stay with me for a week or two while she looks for an apartment.  So far not a big deal.  But I came home early, and was checking my History on the computer.  I usually just erase it, but for whatever reason I decided to look at it.  I noticed that she was on the dating site and had been checking guys out for the last couple of days.  So, me being on the how should I put it.... Pissed side, yup that's what I would call it.  Ask her about it.  Her answer wasn't at all what I thought it would be.  She said "well, you really should update your pictures on the site, you don't look the same"  Now my mind is in a frenzy! I was expecting, well I think I want to see other people, or some kind of lie... But no..  Needless to say, she was out the door within 3 minutes upon dropping that lil' bomb.   Case closed.

Brief story:  I went to a bar that was right next door to where I was living (same apartment as above story) I had recently moved there, didn't know very many people so, having a bar next door could be a way to meet some new people and of course, check out the ladies! lol  So, I go to the bar, it's a good size bar  (Picture a big square with people sitting around it) and I see this gorgeous woman across from me.  After a few drinks, I look back at her and we connect eyes.. I do my dorky smile, but don't buy her a drink.. (don't ever do that guys) we exchange little looks over the course of an hour, and by the end of the hour I have all of a sudden gained something... I think they call it "Liquid Confidence" lol and decide that I would just say hi to her on my way to the bathroom.  You know, kill two birds with one stone kinda thing.  So, I get up,  all the while she is watching, I walk towards the bathroom, and here she is, about to say something...  When out of my right flank is this woman who says "Yeah, um no..I don't think so"  I didn't get in a hello, hi or even, Are you your parents retarded? because your so special" lol, no I never have said that.  I shot her a dirty look and the girl I was making the googly moogly eyes with just turned back around.  Defeated, I went to the bathroom, threw a dollar bill in the urinal pissed on it, and while I washed my hands watched some dude pull it out and put it in his pocket..  Jim VS Bar  1-1

I have more stories, but I don't wanna give them all away! lol  till next time.

Happy 4th of July!

So, I figured I would tell you a little about me, my family, and what makes me tick...

I have two sisters (both older) and  as a weird accident I turned out to be the pretty one! lol just kidding.  Amy, my oldest sister is in Advertising and has been in it for I believe 15 years give or take a few.  I am so uber proud of her, she works her ass off and takes so much pride in her work.  She has worked her way to the top, and the people around her respect and open their ears whenever she has something to say.  She has a dog named Wrigley (a yellow lab) that is just the nicest dog you would ever see.  The only thing is that he thinks he is the size of a chihuahua! when in fact he is well over 100lbs!

Katie, is my middle sister and like me is in between opportunities.  Whatever industry she has been involved in it has been a success! She wears her heart on her sleeve, but isn't afraid to tell you exactly how she feels.  She was my real drivers ED teacher! a great teacher, mentor, Christian and will do everything she can to help anyone.  A big heart, dedicated and loves her doggy Sophie, a Cocker Spaniel.  Of which, I am happy to say that I am the only man she doesn't want to bite.

Mom, what can I say about my mom? lots! she is amazing, she is the backbone of our family, the glue, the life blood of what makes the three kids tick.  Our morals, our judgements, the way that we treat others all come from her.  Married once, divorced and ultimately had to watch the man she loved for over 30 years go through what we all fear. Cancer. She was by his side every day, despite all the mess that surrounds a divorce.  When we were young and moving around the country ( a lot ) she always had the positive outlook, she could transform any house into a warm and welcome home for us, and made sure that everyone else was comfortable before herself.

Dad,  He was an inspiration for me, he got me interested in vehicles right from the word go.  He worked up the ranks for GM and when it was all said and done, he made a mark (a positive one ) within the Automotive industry.   He gave me more than one lesson regarding life, relationships, treating others, and how to take pride in my work. He passed away of that ass kicking Cancer, and will always be a part of my life.

That brings us to me... Not much to tell really, I have been in the automotive industry since I can remember, and have a passion for muscle cars (all because of my dad)  It wasn't until recently, that I am venturing into trying to be a DJ.  I went to the Second City academy in Chicago and was part of a sketch comedy troupe here in Dallas for a brief time.  Performing, much like getting a tattoo is very addictive! I love it, I love to make people laugh, currently single (yes, its true..) but hope to find "The One".  As I think I mentioned earlier, I am out of work which makes it tough to find her so right now I am concentrating on getting my demo reel that I made, out to as many radio stations as possible!  I have faith in myself, believe I can do it and be very successful as well.  I don't base my success by the amount of money I have, but don't want to be week to week like I am now.  I do want cool cars, but ultimately they don't make who I am, that's just my vice. I have a dog named Bullit, (yes, correct spelling) named after one of the best car chase movie I have seen.  You guessed it, the name of the movie was Bullit with Steve McQueen.  He is a miniture weiner dog. He thinks he is Wrigley's size and has tried to prove it by killing at least 4 frogs and a rabbit.  For hobbies, I love watching movies, and for some damn reason still into video games! I hate to admit it.. But if there is a positive out of that, is that I have met some really cool people (and some in person)  I also love to BBQ! it's on THAT note, that I have to go and devour some ribs...

Happy 4th of July readers, please don't forget about those that have served our country, that are currently serving our country.  And those missing in Action.  I will say a prayer to them as well as their loved ones.  Come home soon!

Next Topic will Be:  Single in Dallas, Stories of embarrassing moments, odd observations, and building my ideal match.. Stay tuned!

A day at the movies

My sister and I decided to see Transformers 2 yesterday.  While it was a great movie, that's not what this Blog is about.  This blog is about what I saw while there, we saw it at our local mall which I guess is more or less a hoity toity place to go.  I saw people all dressed up to linger around the mall or see a movie.  I remember when I was in junior high and into high school going to the mall was a big deal.  We would wear the "coolest" things and more or less strut the mall scoping for girls.  Now that I am in my 30's I really haven't seen any changes with people.  I saw the young kids all decked out which I expected but to see the adults that were all pimped out to walk around a mall.  I just didn't get it,  don't get me wrong I'm not against trying to look your best but, its a mall let me say that again... ITS A MALL!

There is something about Dallas or maybe our society that I just don't get,  and I don't know if it has to do with money, power or upbringing that I seem to notice the douchbaggery.   And by that I mean, once someone establishes themselves in what ever capacity they are after they project it to others.  Prime example, when we left we were behind a mercedes a nice, shiny brand spanking new one.  When all of a sudden it just stopped, put the car and parked right on the main drive in front of the mall.  What the "F"? one could argue, well maybe they just didn't see you behind them... Ok, but if you are going to stop and park, wouldn't you at least pull to the curb, maybe put on your blinker or flashers?  No, not these people! lol they owned the road apparently.   Ok, that was a small deal... but what about when you are in the mall and you and another person meet eyes and you do the courtesy smile as if to say " I don't want to talk to you, but I will acknowledge that you are there" or if your a guy and the same thing happens with another guy, you kinda do the head shake, followed by what's up.....lol I do that, but now rethinking it... At the mall, just about everyone would make eye contact and when you did the fake smile, they seem to just look away  maybe it was because I wasn't pimped out, and not "on their level"   I guess this has turned into a rant more than anything else.  I'm not done with this rant either.  I will be posting more about the women of Dallas, and what I have seen around different parts of Dallas.  I promise, I will have some funnier light hearted posts! lol
